you smell what i'm steppin' in?

there is something totally unholy going down in our apartment bathroom.

my current physical "condition" causes me to use the restroom several times a night. during our first week in this apartment a few months back, when i'd wake up and yadda yadda, i could hear traffic and street-crossing signals coming from my shower. and we're 21 floors up. and we sleep with the windows closed. interesting. matt and i concluded that the vent in the bathroom must be some sort of wormhole directly linked to the street level below.

welp, this noise pollution that's been haunting our commode has taken on new and interesting characteristics as of late. a couple of days ago, the scent of raw sewage came wafting through our living room, and i traced the funk directly back to the bathroom vent. then tonight the ripe essence of warm dog food hit my olfactory nerve like a ton of brick. i kid you not. and my grade school chums will appreciate this, but the smell took me straight back to my youthful days in ogden the dogden, driving down wall avenue and trying to hold my breath as i'd pass the dog food plant on 28th street. it was uncanny. and tonight i couldn't help but wonder, knowing there ain't a pet food plant within miles of my high-rise apartment, what am i really smelling? ignorance is bliss.

oh, i'm so sorry. that really is disgusting. we have neighbors who smoke and sometimes you can smell the lovely 2nd hand smoke coming through a tiny hole in our cupboards in our kitchen. it's lovely. i don't even want to know what it was you were really smelling! you said it perfectly, ignorance is bliss!

when i worked in downtown ogden i prayed for hostess days when we'd get delicious wafts from the factory on 26th, but they were far rarer than dogbarf days. i know that scent oh too well and am so sorry, that's a smell that should never come near your home.

Gross...I'm sorry! Being pregnant really makes you so sensitive to every smell. When I was pregnant, I could not sleep by Blake because his smell made me sick. I feel bad now, because he really doesn't stink!

oh friend, that's so sad. our house flooded with human waste the second week we lived here...and yes, i agree with kate, no one should have to smell anything remotely like that. especially on the 21st floor.... so either someone has issues on the 20th floor OR there are some major holes in the structure. :)

Gotta love how your sense of smell increases during pregnancy. The smell is only magnified. I am with you, I would rather not know. Still hanging in there? Excited to hear when baby Burton makes the appearance.

That is the curse of pregnancy I tell you! Smell is overwhelming! I sure hope whatever it is either goes away, or you have that little one soon! Good luck! :)

This would drive me crazy! I wouldn't be able to sleep at night not knowing where that was coming from. well, that and not being able to stop dry heaving from the scent of the bog of eternal stench.
