bummer.

after a long day of inhaling bus fumes and second hand smoke and feeling especially guilty about exposing my wee one to such toxins, i decided a nice, hearty vegetarian subway sandwich sounded like a good healthy choice for dinner. matt and i grabbed our sandwiches and found a bench in the heart of central on which to enjoy our meal. grub consumed and conversation ensuing, i nonchalantly took notice of our surroundings and found a sign posted at my left which read, "warning: rat poison has been laid in this area blah, blah, blah..."

two hours, a long hot shower and a good cry later, i feel a new resolve to never leave my hong kong apartment again. if my sweet baby boy is born with relatively good health and lives to see the ripe old age of 10, it will be in spite of anything and everything his mother did. pass the xanax.

Erin, don't worry, I'm sure your baby will be fine! You are so close now (I can't believe it's less than 4 weeks-!!), all he's doing now is putting on those cute little baby pounds! It's been so fun to check out your blog recently, and see what you guys have been up to--and everytime I was about to make a comment, I got distracted! :) We miss you! I'm so excited to see the little guy! Did you decide on a name yet, or did I miss that posting? Take care--and good luck in 4 weeks! Wow!

Someone worries too much. If you're going to worry about anything, rat poison is a waste of time. I'd be more concerned about the genes he's getting from both sides.....

Erin..hang in there. How are you doing today? I had one of those days yesterday but then the sun is shining and everything seems a little easier to deal with today. Do you have to swallow those awful horse sized iron pills too? With Katelyn I was on a regimen of 3 a day and my levels never improved so my Doc hasn't been as much a stickler on it this time around. Good luck with these last few weeks. I can't wait to see your handsome little fella.

Oh pregnancy must have made you emotional! You are so adorably hypochondriatic! I may have just made up that word, but you get what I am saying...

yikes! just another sign that you are meant to stay in the USofA. look erin, you're tough. you staved off arrest in zimbabwe, backpacked south america, rode an elephant in thailand, etc, etc, etc. any offspring of yours will be just fine. :)

you are already a great mother for worrying so much. i hear it's what mom's do best!

...and of course you cried about it. Gotta love those pregnancy hormones!

ugh. that IS a bummer. with my 2nd little girl i didn't realize i was pregnant and had been living on dry ramen for a couple of weeks because it was all i could stomach. thought i had the flu. (duh.) despite the lack of any nutrients at the get go, she turned out dang cute. you have been super conscientious and i'm sure your baby will be not only dang cute, but also a genius. p.s., talked to my bro in china whose wife had a shanghai baby, he said hk is the best place in that part of the world to have a baby. u.s. standard care even if their bedside manner stinks. hoping your experience is very positive.

Erin you are so funny! Ah, memories of being a good parent...they say when you are a first time mother if a binky falls on the floor you quickly grab it up and sterilize it without hesitation. As the second one comes around, the binky falls down, the mom washes it under some running water. Next child, the binky gets popped into the mom's mouth for a "quick rinse". I guess at last moms realize, the binky falls on the floor and the mom pops it back into the baby's mouth. :) (Of course I'm still in the first time mom stage though.) Welcome to the world of worries! :)

Jeremey read this and told me about it. He could only laugh at us pregnant women and say we are so worried about things. I had your back though. I told him that things like this are scary and I imagine they are TEN TIMES scarier in another country. It is almost like you feel more violated because you are so far from home.

old me.
