speechless and confused in what sense? that you too saw the movie and it left your head spinning with wonderful, deep emotion, or speechless and confused in the sense that i wasn't very clear on the title?
*slumdog millionaire*

Speechless becaused I didn't know any watched the Golden Globes and confused due to the fact that your overwhelming sense of sarcasm often clouds my ability to take you serious. Still not sure if you are serious or not. Perhaps I should just stop huh?

i would like to say that, ahem, i didn't confuse your serious-ness/sarcasm. i knew you were complimenting a good film. and i would also like to announce that i too watched this golden globe be awarded. backing my sister up here; she's not the only one who watches the golden globes. (sorry kirk.) and oh yeah, i have yet to see this film. must be good! :)

I'll have to add this to my movie list...it will have to be moved closer to the top if I want to see it this century, but it definitely looks worth the bump up.

Dear Erin, I too would jump on the bandwagon of "millionaires" if this along with what seems to be every other $8 ticket-worthy new release would drop a few F-words for at least a PG-13 rating. My list includes "Defiance" with Daniel Craig and "The International" Action, Corrupt Banking, Nazi's what more is there right? I am seriously rying to find a way to justify at least one of these movies in my mind. Where's CleanFlicks when you need them?

i totally understand where you're coming from kirk. i was torn for a while on whether i should recommend this show on my blog cos i don't do r-rated shows. it's not worth it for me to wade through an hour and a half of sex and foul language to see a "great" film. this show was not the case.

that said, i do make exceptions, usually for historical war films, but i did for this one as well. it does say the f-word, twice, i think, which is two times too many, but if it "helps," it's said with a thick indian accent, so i didn't realize it had even been said til a few seconds after the fact. that doesn't make it better, but if the f-word is all you're worried about, you won't find much of it here. i think slumdog is rated r for violence and just some heavy, gritty humanity situations. it takes place right in the thick of the mumbai slums, and some of the themes that are in this show are heart-wrenching and true. but the show left me feeling hopeful and happy, a much better feeling than after i saw pg-13 rated 'the dark knight.'

but at the end of the day, yes, i am justifying an r-rated show.

guess I ought to clarify -- having only "wikipedia-ed" the synopsis and not actually having seen the flick, I think that the story is quite brilliant and how they capture the desperate-ness of it all earns its praise. that being said, without any knowledge of the film or book, upon watching the clip posted one could be mightily confused.
as for 'the dark knight,' I'm afraid I will have to come to its defense as it has made my top 10 list of movies that "got it right."

i, too, thought 'the dark knight' was one of the best films of the year, but it was just so... dark. i think heath ledger earned himself an oscar for his performance. slumdog had its grim moments, but when the credits rolled, i left the theater with a full heart and a smile on my face. i guess what i meant to say was that i think 'the dark knight' was a pretty edgy "pg-13," and slumdog was a lighter "r." for whatever that's worth.

ah. interesting that the f-word, obscurred by thick Indian accent, twice earns an 'R' rating while the cold, remorse-less and brutal killing, repeatedly through the show, is regarded as acceptable for young teens to watch. maybe they figure everyone is already used to it considering all the video games and tv shows out there.
gotta say though, for all the darkness of the movie (dk), even to the point that I thought I wasn't going to be able to finish watching it, the resolution of it all -- the "lesson" of it I thought was so on-target; so ... right. I rarely get so pumped about a show's "moral of the story" like I did over this one.
glad to hear there's another movie out there that can give the same feeling without having to suffer through the violence first to get there.
