can you fracture a rib from coughing too much? i've had the black lung for about ten days now, and about three days ago my side started to throb every time i really got hacking. i'm pretty sure there's nothing much i could do about a broken rib at this point. unless the bone decides to go compound fracture on me and breaks through the skin, i doubt the doctor would do anything more than look at me and say, "eh, suck it up." and bless baby sister's heart, having a small human all nestled up in your rib cage sort of complicates the matter. and it just so happens that the problem area is on my left side where i sling the hefty fox henry on my hip. it all makes for a somewhat unfortunate situation. if anybody out there has any great tips on how to not move while caring for a toddler, or any suggestions on how to get my hands on legal painkillers without a prescription and/or street drugs that wouldn't cause my unborn child to grow an extra limb, i'm all ears.

there aint nothing wrong with leashing fox henry and gunther for crowd control. just have matthew remove the rib himself and add it to his list of extra curricular on his resume ;)
Should I bring you over a jar of honey to drink? Maybe that would help. Feel better, EB. I'm sad for your rib.

Whole laboring with my son I separated my sternum from my lower ribs from the holding my breath and pushing him out. The nurses uncaringly told me they can't do anything about it and suck it up. I am sure violent coughing could give a similar result.
